Reading guide:
Background
This article is a typical review article which presents a particular
theory and grounds it in relation to other theories of the same type
of cognitive task.
Things to watch out for
- Intro lays out the task and basic history.
- Next section describes the basics of the theory. Try hard to
understand the details, especially Fig. 1.
- Box 1 highlights an interesting specific application of this
theory. Try to think of some similar examples. Regular or
irregular?
- Fig 2 relates to the topic brought up in Box 1. Try to
understand it -- but this is not as critical as Fig. 1.
- Fig 3 shows a good example of cross-disciplinary evidence in
Cognitive Science. Lots of technical terms here. Don't worry
trying to understand it like a neuroscientist would, but look up
enough of the words to get the main point.
- Don't skimp on the final section. This gives their idea of
where current/future research are focusing/will focus.
